Nah, I don't think it's a circus....yet. The sport of MMA is one of the biggest growing sports in the world today. It's gotten HUGE notority in the last couple of years. Hell, I was doing the stuff when it wasn't even called "MMA" yet. Now MMA is an actual Martial Arts style...same as Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Jiu jitsu, Akido and so on. It's a conglomeration of the best parts of traditional styles. Now days, if you don't train all around, you're gonna get beat. You just can't be one dimentional. Here is another thing, until recently, most college wrestlers...the good ones didn't really have a platform for their skill after they graduated. There really isn't a professional wrestling league for the most part so most of them were basically forced to call it a career and move on to other things, coaching and so forth. Or, they tried their hand at WWE type stuff, which let's face it, isn't traditional wrestling and only a select few could make it to the big time. The point; a TON of very talented athletes were basically left in limbo or retired completely. Now that MMA is so huge, and many of these talented wrestlers have seen that if they expanded their views and skills, they could continue to compete in a sport that is growing wildly. Hell, sounds interesting to me. Brock lesnar was made for the UFC in his day. unfortunately he got wrapped up in WWE and trying out for the NFL...which wasn't his game. He stands a chance...and you never know he may transition impressively. Alot of it depends on how big his head has gotten, though. I guess we'll see. Personally I think Dana White is a marketing phenom. Either way, his company wins.

yeah i totally agree with you and dana white is a phenom when it comes to marketing the ufc. but i just dont wanna see a great sport brought down to the level of something like the wwe just because of greed.

The question is....is this fight worth paying $60 to see? who else is on the card. I'm embarassed to say, but I haven't heard to much else. Even though i really want to see the fight, I may have to do some research before i go spend the money....

anyone heard?

It doesnt look to exciting of a card.
Sylvia vs Nogueria
Mir vs Lesnar
Tibau vs Griffin
These are the only ones I am interested in. I personally think Sylvia vs Nogueria is going to be boring as hell, but I am interested in seing who gets the heavyweight belt temporarily.

Who is paying $60?
I only pay $40 here in Seattle.

Really? $40? The last pay per view i got....the one with hughes vs GSP 3 was $59 thru dish down here in GA. It was pretty damn sweet though in HD.

Brock has no octogon experience Mir is going to take it. Not that Brock doesn't have a chance but its been years since he has been competitive. being in the "WW whatever" has done nothing for him in the aspect of real training and being hit like Mir is going to do to him.

I predict Mir 1st round submission by arm bar.

I am a huge fan, too. I have been watching since the "supermatch" days where one guy would fight up to several times in a night for the victory. I used to buy the fights religiously, but started getting dissapointed with the cards. One good fight and the rest filled up with "ex ultimate fighter" guys. I was stoked for UFC 79 (Liddell vs Silva/St-Pierre Hughes)...now that is a card. I would agree that Dana White is excellent at creating "hype" and growing the sport, but so is Vince McMahon, but I don't watch WWE. HopefullIy he keeps the sport in context, and doesn't bastardize it. I think he will continue to make good decisions.

EDIT: The last two fights Mir looked liked ****. He gassed REALLY early (and I think lost both times). I am officially calling an "upset special". You heared it here first.

Yep. $40. But its throught the cable company. If it was $60 I dont think I would be purchasing it as often.

Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir
R1 – Lesnar shoots in immediately and gets Mir to the ground where he unloads a barrage of punches, but hits Mir in the back of the head and referee Steve Mazzagatti calls timeout and deducts a point from Lesnar. With the fight restarted, Lesnar lands a punch that puts Mir down and he starts to again throw multiple shots and Mir pulls guard and attempts an armbar but Lesnar escapes. As Lesnar tries to pull out of the guard, Mir transitions and pulls a leg out from the former WWE fighter, and transitions to a knee bar forcing the tap from Lesnar.

Frank Mir def. Brock Lesnar by Submission (knee bar) 1:30, R1

HE went for the arm bar, but I figured it would go that way.
