The PO of my bike is more paranoid than I am. Gave him a deposit for my bike and the first thing he did was pull the plates off. He doesn't want any legal attachment to the bike whatsoever. He's paranoid about the bill of sale, insisting that even tho it's legal binding enough to cover the sale of the bike he doesn't want to be the 1st stop by the police dept if something happens

Sure I could toss my F3's plates on her. But I don't feel like giving Philadelphia a free bike to sell. And that's exactly what they would do if everything isn't 100% tight on a bike.

I'd call the local DOT and find out the policy. Most places give you a grace period to transfer all the paperwork. Here it's 30 days. But you're right, putting the old plate on it would be asking for big trouble

In Indiana you have 30 days from date of sale. I'd look into it.... you might be legal to ride

Even though he may be legally free to ride, you know he's going to get pulled over by every single cop that sees him without plates. Even then, most grace periods state that they are for the purpose of transporting the bike from the seller's to buyer's location, not for everyday riding, so showing a BoS that's a week old would make that excuse pretty hard to use.

LOL such is the bane of most of us modders. I took the new RR apart before I had put 10 miles on it.

ARRRRGH!

Seller called last night to tell me the title arrived at his house. Last night would have been PERFECT to drive up, complete the paperwork and bring my new baby home... Except I already had plans with my girlfriend! Since she's paid for the bike, she has automatic veto ability on all plans (till I get my refund check).

So I thought "What the hell, I can wait a day". Figured my friend would give me a lift over there and I'd ride her back today... Forecast tonight: RAIN! Learned my lesson last year with the wet. I can handle it with my F3 since I know her, her tires and her mood. But on an unfamiliar bike? Nononononono.

So what to do? Spend $100 on a truck + motorcycle trailer and haul her back tonight? Or wait a day and ride her back tomorrow? I'm leaning towards the trailer tonight cause I can get the title / plates transferred during work tomorrow and start riding (already transferred my insurance).
