tk i agree , i have alot of dvds too, my upconvert works great, but it does not compare to blue-ray, i would not buy a blue-ray movie that i already have on dvd.

I still haven't converted my cassettes to CD to MP3. You can't just buy all of Wham'salbums all over again. Who has that kind of money?

I have a xbox360 HD player I have connected to my pc and goes through my hdtv. Looks great.

Upconvert is just a stretched image. Some dvd's look good upscaled and some look like complete ****.

I was able to get a compressed dvd (4.7Gbs) to look fine in upscale through my PS3.

There is no comparison between DVDs and Blu Rays, upscaled or not. Blu Ray blows anything else you've seen away and the quality is absolutely amazing. And, as lockless said, the right cable is everything. The only way to get 1080 resolution is with an HDMI cable, as component cables only get you 720...but don't think you have to go out and spend $100+ on an HDMI cable like you see in the stores. Do your homework, read around the web, and you will see that you will get a $10 HDMI cable that is equal to if not better than some fancy Monster cables and such that you would be 10x more for.

Seriously, Google Monoprice HDMI cables...and once you realize that they are perfectly fine, go check out the Premium 24AWG HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified Male to Male Cables at http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...p;cp_id=10243.

And rangerscott, upscaling is NOT "just a stretched image." Do your homework...

Homework done and yes its a fake image trying to fit a hdtv. A+

Not saying people need HD stuff. HD movies look better on HD tv's than regular dvd's. I'll watch anything and not complain. I've had my PS3 for months and still havent bought a blu ray disc. Sorry but they're still too high.

If it was my class you would have failed...

There's a whole lot more going on there than "stretching" an image. To say it's not true HD is absolutely correct, but there's quite a bit to it and it looks a hell of a lot better than playing a DVD and fitting it to the width of your HDTV.
