Best Helmet

Also, whoever's visor flipped up during a ride - I just don't see it. If that happened, it makes me wonder about a couple of things, how old is yhour helmet, and what condition is it in?
I can open my visor halfway at 70-80mph and it doens't move a bit. I don't see how yours just flopped openunless the thing was old and/or worn to crap. I also don't think that would be anything specific to one manufacturer... as I said - prolly a taxed *** helmet that wasn't taken care of.

Other forum members have previously expressedthe same problem.
Maybe you have a different [better] model?
Nah - I'm sure it was just one of those things. That stuff can happen to anything.
Also, I finally figured something out...
When people say, "well, how much is your head worth? I'd rather spend..."
The only way that statement is logical is if there was only an option between a $20 helmet or a $700 helmet.

I think some of you are missing the point here--the original poster asked for a quality helmet at a reasonable price. Why is it that when someone asks a basic question, it ultimately turns into a flame war? We're all going to have different views, experiences, and opinions, and it doesn't make anyone "right" by belittling or purposely antagonizing someone to get your point across. It just chews up bandwidth and creates bad feelings.
To the original poster--there are plenty of quality helmets out there, and as you can see so far on this board, an equal amount of opinions on what's best. The basic reason you'll get a helmet is to protect your skull...fair enough. Just because a helmet costs more than another doesn't make it the best helmet out there. Look at it as a Jordache vs. Levis (yeah, I'm dating myself) scenario...one looks nice, but probably couldn't take the beating the other could and still look good. All I can recommend is that you shop around on the Internet, then visit a helmet store and try the helmet(s) on. Like Cinderella's slipper, you'll know the right one when it sits on your noggin just right.
Here's a couple photos from a crash and the guy was wearing a very expensive helmet. Guess what...it broke in front, but all in all, it saved his life...just like a helmet that's perhaps not as expensive, but has DOT and/or SNELL certifications which attest to its industry certified quality.

And the corresponding story...
Hey, all,
Want to let you know that Mitch was in a major motorcycle accident on
Saturday, Feb, 10th, at 10:00am. He was heading through Palomar, a
windy mountain road, when the front wheel lost traction and he went
down going about 40 mph. His bike slid into the guardrail and burst
into flames while his body slid into oncoming traffic. Mitch went
towards an oncoming Suburban and went feet first underneath it. His
helmet caught the bumper of the suburban, catching his head under the
bumper, allowing him to be dragged until it came to a complete stop.
The SUV slowly reversed back and Mitch was motionless.
Choose wisely....your life might depend on it.

I have the biggest *****.
I have the biggest *****.
I have a Nolan, why, because I was to freakin lazy to walk into the three other bike shops across the road, and the sales girl was cute. Personally its horses for courses, I've bought expensive helmets and found them crap & bought cheap ones, same level of crap. I've seen all types of claims made by manufacturers, mainly about wind noise, remove the lining to for cleaning etc. Since you can't take the thing for a test on your bike, then its a claim anyone can make. I just troll through the store till I find one that's comfortable (ours have to meet a certain standard or can't be sold) has got a decent ventilation set up, and maybe a decent colour, to go with my eyes, (and there where two of them). Oh and I have more than one helmet, another brand, an M2R,. a cheapie but good value for popping round town, I also go for flip up helmets cause their usefull and it creeps the tin topos out at the lights when you stare at them. and finally price ain't a guide to safety
I'm with ya, Pace.
Here's my final word. Helmets that pass DOT standards do so for a reason. Make sure the company you're buying from is legit and make sure it fits your dome just like you like it.
If it's your time to go, your helmet isn't going to change that. If you feel safer because you spend $400 on a helmet, and if you have the flow to do that - do what you gotta do.
But just don't try and make the other guy who didn't have as much scratch for a lid feel inadequate because he only spent $150. DOT certified is DOT certified no matter what the price tag.
Most importantly, let's try and make sure we ride in such a manner that we never have to truly find out what the Icon, Shoei ,Arai or the KBC helmets will do in a head impact.
Ride safe.
(thanks for putting me back in line, Stephy

I used to use Vemar.I havesome racing model. I liked it a lot.
But this year I couldn't help. I wanted to get a new one. Now I'm starting this season with X-lite X801-R.

I don't think anybody has mentioned Shark helmets. Personally, I think they're great. I believe the RSR2's are their top of the line helmets.
I don't mean to be a jerk, but I don't think this thread is exactly an "off-topic" topic.
