RE: best guitar player!
Hold on a minute... I agree that techno and house music tracks aren't hard to produce, but I must say that mixing tracks takes just as much musical skill as playing a guitar.
I play guitar, but I also DJ, and it gets on my nerves when people think DJ's aren't musicians. DJing requires that you use both of your ears independently from each other. It also takes a smooth hand and beatmatching skills.

Tennessee,
I like your take on Tom Morrello. What he does is aural landscaping. He is another guy who uses the guitar beyond its traditional limitations, and sometimes as a weapon to convey the same things that are going on lyrically in the song. He is a great guitar player, and very much under rated. I will also chime in on the "engineering" side of recording music. Not just anybody can mix a song. It takes a legitimate talent to do it well. The difference between a good and great album (besides the music of course), is often the engineer.

SRV's #1 - if you ever saw him live or any footage of a live concert you'll understand why...
#2 for me is Leo Kottke. If you never heard him, you gotta check it out. He does ridiculous things with a guitar. Sounds like multiple people playing at once.
#3 El Jefe (see if anyone picks that one out)
