beer aficionado thread
ive been going to the store and picking up the "make your own six packs" alot lately when i drink...tasting diff stuff is always nice, cept when it turns out to taste like ****e lol. lately been trying alot of different ales and lagers, dont like to try diff pilsners, rather just drink a couple buds imo.
Beer, my favourite topic.
For years, we only had a few "local" breweries, every state had a couple of standard types, plus a few specials, depending on taste. Now though, we have hundreds, coming from mainly small breweries, so the bigger breweries are also trying to match wot these guys turn out.
My favourite beers: Platts Folly (locally made, like 5 clicks up the road)
Little Creatures Bright Ale
Little Creatures Pale Ale
Pigs Fly Pale Ale
James Squires Golden Ale
Outback Australian Bitter (Maate!)
Victorian Bitter Original
Coopers beer (all of the styles)
Carlton Draught (on tap)
Blue Tongue (Ginger Beer)
There are heaps more, but these are my main stays & are easy to get at my local.
I'm also fond of making my own Home Brew, but my wife tends to get a bit narky, as I make several batches at a time (50 to 60 odd bottles) So after the initial two weeks final fermentation, I start to enjoy a beer or three, which some how always ends up with my next door neighbour living in my lounge room & both of us singing along to my Led Zepplin albums.

Hahahahaha! Awesome! I used to love singing while drunk.
I definitely consider myself a beeraficionado at 24... I think I've had quite a few of the ones on your dresser.
My personal favorite: Hoegaarden with a lemon... best beer ever.

^^^ Sorry babe (said in the male tradition...like "BABE" Ruth). I am not a fan of any beer that is accentuated with a piece of fruit. While it is a popular beer, I view it with the most contempt like I do "Fat Tire". For me, there is nothing there. Fruit is best served with tequila...
. Get some Deschutes if you want local, Red...

I am a Deschutes brewery fan. They do not make a bad beer. Mirror Pond, Cinder Cone, Obsideon Stout, etc. My favorite to be sure. I also am a big fan of Alaskan Amber, and Bridgeport IPA (their caps used to say Great Firkin Beer...cool). I am also a big fan of the seasonal beers that come out around the holidays. Deschute's Jubilale and Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale come to mind.
Good thread, Elmer. I wonder how many people are going to post up about Budwieser and Coors...[:@]
