Ban Crotch Rockets!!!
Donohu I realy don't think this would work. It would be a matter of perfect timing if it did. The sportbike cop would have to be in the immediate area when the pursuit begins not accross town, county, or city or miles away. And just think of the first time an accident occurres if the sportbike cop hits the kill switch and the guy running panics and wrecks. Instead of a cruiser tried to run over and kill poor defenseless, scared, fleeing felon sportbike rider the headlines would read sportbike cop murders rider by grabbing handle bars and causing him to wreck (or something like that).
also I ride for a living and would not want to pull up next to a fleeing felon on two wheels. While most motorcycle cops are highly trained and train monthy it takes one mistake from an inexperienced rider or the cop (yes we make mistakes too believe it or not lol) to cause a major accident and or death to one, both, or others. I got run off the road by a 14 year old running at about 50 mph and how I held on is beyond me. The driver braked from inexcess of 100mph and swereved into my lane while I was following. I love the excitement of the job but this would seem like a sucuide mission to me.
Kill switchs have worked for me in the past before many times though. I've had several incidents, especially during Bike Week and Biketober Fest that sportbikes will do stunts in front of a bar or a harley or sportbike speeds through town and I'm able to work my way up to them in traffic while at a stop light and hit the kill switch to prevent any possibility of flight.
Its a good though and I've eeven thought of it before but I don't see it working. Someone told me not to long ago that Alabama State Police siezed a 'busa and turned it into a Highway traffic motorcycle and that it worked so well that the police purchased a second one for the highway. I cannot confirm this but its what I heard. Maybe someone from the Alabama area can answer this.

Well I dont know what to say. Because I work for a police department and on the other hand i love to ride my bike. I think it was the cops fault that he hit the civi. car. I've initiated pursuits before and i can't recall anytime where i came close to hitting a civi. car comming into the chase. I think the cop was inexpierenced.
I just re-read my posta nd yea i guess it sounded way too serious huh.
Sorry guys all this cop bashing just has me on edge, i think the whole world is against me. lol just kidding. The truth is my department actually talked about sportbikes and I know a company that installs police lights and equiptment that tricked out a gixxer 750 with red and blues that you would have never seen until it was too late. It even had a siren and radio.
Sorry guys I'll try to lighten up lol

^^^I think you are fine in your responses. Good discussion requires two points of view, and it is nice to have your perspective...can you fix any of my parking tickets?
