Honestly... just wait to leave. YOu will have less traffic, and get there the same time. I know a guy that used to make the reverse commute to go see his girlfriend in college, and he would wait till like 7 to leave because the traffic would have died down, and instead of sitting on the road for 4 hours, he waited two and drove two.

Didn;t really answer your question, just my .02

Friday afternoon at that timeyou're pretty much screwed no matter what. Taking 287 over the Tappan Zee and then down the Garden State Parkway might be a little better than the GWB to the Turnpike, but either way you're going to be splitting lanes most of the way if you want to make decent time.

I agree with Munson. It's a little more roundabout, but your best bet would probably be over the TappanZee, then hitting up the Thruway/Parkway. That'll take you right where you need to go.

I personally haven't seen much traffic hitting up the Merritt to the Hutch to Saw Mill and GWB, but I haven't done it on a Friday night, so it could be pretty bad, especially with the rain that's forecast.
