Default Anyone ever lived in alaska?

So there's about a 1 in 5 chance that i'll be stationed in alaska in about 2-3 months. Anyone ever lived there? Is it worth taking my bike? My current thought process is that if i DO get sent to alaska, i'll prolly sell the bike and buy 2 snowmobiles, one for me and one for the wife. But then again, i have no idea how long the weather is nice enough to ride up there.

Oh yeah-if i go, it'll be near the Ft Wainwright area.

Thanks!!!

-Adam

Alaska is without a doubt the most beautiful state we have. My mom lived there for quite a few years when she was younger in Juneau, and we just went on a weeklong cruise there a while back.

It was amazing! There's nothing in the entire world more incredible than seeing bald eagles swooping down catching salmon, glaciers, and Pilot whales are coming up to check you out! I have pictures if anybody wants to see!

Depends what part you go to...Most of the state has weather just like Maine, where there is probably a 7 month riding season. If possible, I'd take the bike

I spent two years, tramping from Anchorage ( Kayaking with Killer whales on Prince William sound and hanging out with eagles on the Kenai peninsula) to Fairbanks, with time spent on Denali (Mt Mc Kinley). I'd say take the bike. Everything about AK is awsome, especially the mosquitos ! A liter-bike would add to the awsomeness, but something like a BMW might be more practical for the gazillion miles of unimproved tracks. A rifle and fishing pole would be a good idea too. Dare I mention night-vision goggles ? lol ! Pace, Gris.
