I took these mostly during the summer of the bridges where I live ... I love trying to get the perfect scene framed by a bridge but not
truly happy with these .. I know what I want in my minds eye and these are not it but thought I would show them, feel free to critic
them in any way or just enjoy the sun in them since its so miserable out just now ..lol

Looks like those boats are one way only, they ever get jammed up?

 

I like the effect I think you are going for. Sort of the light at the end of the tunnel... right?...paired with the subject matter framed by the bridge opening. Am I even close?
Those canals are really are something else Jules. We used to have canals here in central PA back at the turn of the last century, but they have all gone the way of thehorse and buggy (save for the amish).

No matter how bad you may think they are, they are still great shots. Sorry...I've got nothing bad to say about them.

The holiday people are generally clueless about the boats and our lock systems ..there is nothing more comical than seeing them get one of those long narrow boats wedged right across the canal with the back and front stuck in the mud and the bemusement on their faces ..I just walk on by with my music and smile sweetly .. not my problem .. he he!!

Although I do like helping them out at the locks where I live :-)

I've never experienced "canals" in person, i guess im a little naive.
whats the point of them??
they must lead to or start from a larger body of water im assuming???
how long are those canals???

Your questions are not dumb at all .. I have lived around the canals all my life ..they have been kinda a way of life for me ... my parents had a boat on them in the 1980s ..(a leisure boat that we used to travel all over on) ..the canal system here in the UK was primarily used during the industrial age and were built in the late 1700s .. the narrow boats would be all horse drawn and full of cargo like coal etc. ..hence the paths that run along side the canals are called the tow paths ...a lot of the bridges here have all the wear marks on them from years of ropes sliding over them ... the canals go for miles and miles and you can spend days or weeks boating along them ..there are different sytems and lots are interconnected ..for some like the boat peopel its a way of life ...its a timeless place ..kinda the land that time forgot!!

Yes, sort of how I feel lately ..but they just arent quite right ..I know a great tunnel near here with a good view out and I might get the effect I want from there ..its the Chirk Aquaduct which has a tunnel next to it and a view out over the duct ... I will try in the spring when everything here really blooms and colours are vivid again :-)

We have fire and also the wheel, but the things that confuse us are these flying machines that often pass overhead ..they are very high up usually and we think man made ..probably part of the developed world but we need one to crash nearby for further experimentation!!
