RE: $800 goverment check
From what I have read, it sounds like typically what they would do is issue a bill for a tax cut when you file your taxes for 2008. However, since they are in a hurry to *save americans money* they want to issue the checks so we can spend now. Unfortunately, the downside to all of this is you have to pay the rebate back when you file for 2008. So for example, let say you paid $4000 in taxes on average. The proposal would make it so when you file next year, you only have to pay $3400, the tax cut in effect. Well, since they are essentially giving you a loan, next year your taxes are going to be more like $4600.

i think they did a survey (1 of 1000 survey's) and most people said the checks are going to be put towards bills or saved because you know we are going to have to pay taxes on it next year! Paying bills is good, but probably wont do much for the economy.
why dont they spend half the money on our population as they do on the frickin' war and the middle east's population, maybe that will help OUR OWN people out

RE: $800 goverment check
There's so much more to this whole package that just immediate money to the individual tax payers. There's also a part about tax relief for businesses. One thing that I thought would get more media coverage, is that w/ this tax breaks for the businesses, is that it's also going to hurt the state budgets. In MO, 2/3 of the budget goes to education. So now the stateare going to have to cut education costs.
It's $600 for indvidual, $1200 for couples, +$300 for each kid. There are variables from there.
We're going to pay off debt. I'm all about spending money, but if they wanted this to help the American economy, they would have put a clause in there, saying that it has to be spent on a product that is made in America, owned by an American company.
Note: This is just my flexible point of view, I'm not set on this way of thinking and more than welcome to other points of view, so that I might be able to learn.
p.s. I am a horrible speller.
