140hp 2006 yamaha r6
Has anyone else seen the claim from Yamaha in Cycle World mag. of 140hp from the new R6. If this lives up to what it is claiming then that is unfreakin believable. This bike is suppose to lead the 600 class in power; I would hope so since it would have 10-15 more ponies than my 954rr. Oh yea, I almost forgot to mention the race ready, $18000 msrp., limited edition only 500 in the UNITED STATES R1. Yamaha has really gone overboard.

I have an article from Motorcyclist Mag. Nov. 05 right here that writes "Specifics are scarce at this juncture, but all that should add up to a significant bump over the 05 bikes 110 rear-wheel horsepower at 13000 rpm". 30 ponies probably would be more than "a significant bump". What they are refering to is higher compression, more over-square design, 2k more revs, and a host of other things as well.

No mentioning on their website about the R6's ponies. But the LE (limited Edition) R1 will cost $18,000. Only in yellow and black, adjustable ride height, gold chain, built in lap timer, Öhlins suspension units front and rear, Marchesini wheels designed specifically for the LE add style while removing nearly a pound of unsprung weight, torque-limiting slipper clutch, New intake port modifications increase output by three horses, to 183 at 12,500 rpm. Oh yeah, all of this is on their website….. This is all good, but I’d rather have my 600RR with the left of 9 or 10 thousand dollars for the upgrades.

Guys, I know it sounds unreal but Cycle World is a very reputable magazine. It doesn't have the article on their website but check out the magazine the next time at Wal-Mart. It is this months mag. with a blue R6 on the cover. It could be a type-o but it states specifically to produce 140hp. Doesn't however state if that is usuable power to the wheel or from the motor.

i had a slipper clutch and i dont know if maybe it was jus messed up ,But if i tried to clutch a wheelie it would do jus that ,slip. Then the bike would jus peel off ,so it was good for a take off, it really takes away the need of u feathering out the clutch .But when u wanna jus rev it up and drop the clutch , the slipper gos into effect and slips out jus a lil so that ur front end stays down... i dont know if thats what it is neccasarily supposed to do . but thats what i noticed on my bike . it almost felt like my clutch was burning out. needless to say i got rid of the bike. i figure unlessu are racing u dont need one for the street unless u really cxant shift for ur self and if u cant shift for your self then u shouldnt be on a bike anyway

They are hard as hell to launch consistantly and have a tendency to make you stand it up when you don't want to. Mainly because full engagement seems to change at random. Also when down shifting hot and heavy they'll prevent the rear from sliding (a good thing) but it makes a God awful noise that'll make you think that you ripped the transmission out. I never could get used to that noise.
