Default Yeah, I'm new.

Just took my safety class this past weekend, planning on buying a bike this coming weekend. Trying to decided between a 2004 600RR and a 2001 929RR. I don't want to buy something I'm going to be unhappy with... I don't want to buy a 600 and be unhappy with it after a month, but I also don't want to buy a 929 and have it be way too much for me.

I am 6' tall and weigh about 135 (don't laugh.. ) lol Is a 929 too much for me?

Welcome to the CBRForum C1B1R.

Good job taking the safety class.

If you are completely new to riding, I'd recommend starting on the 600RR. Not that you aren't mature enough to handle the 929 but it does have more power & is less forgiving than the 600RR. W/ the 600RR, you can get technique, safety, & experience down first. Then, move up later. The 600RR will have more than enough power for you.

Be safe out there & ride responsibly.

I'm just worried about the torque associated with the 929... lol

Very much agree, if you don't plan a LOT of 2-up, a 600 is the perfect vehicle. It's still light enuf to be really agile and plenty of horsepower. Especially for a novice.

Bigger is not always better.

I have 80k miles, 2-600's and one 750 under my belt. I've toyed with the thought of bigger but never felt the urge enough to bother.

Unless you are a real adreniline junkie, a 600 will keep you happy for quite a while.

Welcome to CBRF!! gotcbr nailed it with what he said .
The 600cc is a great bike to start with and I think you will be pleasantly surprised that they are not in any part a slow bike at all . A 929 is a race inspired animal that will put you on the pavement if your not experienced and have some skilled handling in the power that thing puts out.
The CBR 600RR is a really good choice,, a fast , agile , sweet looking bike.
Better safe than sorry bro ,, you can always trade it in once your ready to move up . Congrats on taking the class / course !

The only reason my instinct is still clinging on to the 929RR is because the guy is asking $4350 with 6k miles. The 600RR guy is asking $5200 with 4k miles and seems a little firmer on his asking price...

I'm sure I will end up going with a 600 though, because being a twig looking guy, I doubt I will be able to handle the power of a 929 (let alone the power of a 600!)

There ya go ,,Smart thinking ! There is too many great deals on the 600rr's to be had to buy , keep in mind that a bike with a history / records pays out big time in letting you know what has been done and what hasn't in knowing your purchasing a well taken care of ride . Shop around as I think you can get a better deal with a 600rr price wise , depending on the yr and mileage. keep us in the loop ,,and some pics of the new bike you get. Once again , smart decision on getting a CBR 600rr bike ,,I think you will be very happy with that size ,,until you get comfortable to move up to the monster bikes . Good luck with your search Bro!
