Default restoration

Hi and thanks for accepting me into the club. I have been given a 1989 CBR 600 jelly mould bike, that has been thrown down the road, causing major damage to the left hand side of the bike. My intention is to rebuild the bike with good parts and then strip and do a complete renovation. up to now i have fitted new radiator, footrests, gear lever, clocks , upper fairing and repaired the wiring, one part i cant find out about is the small switch on the right hand side next to the rear brake reservoir, it has one wire on it and is spring loaded but the wire is broken near the headstock so i dont know where it terminates, any help would be welcome,

@raymond28 Hello and welcome to the forum. Pictures are worth.... well you know the phrase.. lol. Interesting I don't see anything with a single wire on it. The brake light switch has 2 wires going to it. What color is the wire? What type of connection is it? Picture?

No that is what i cant understand, it seems like a cut out switch, just one wire and the switch is spring loaded, when you push it in, the back of the switch goes to ground, so i believe it must be a cut out switch, the wire is dark blue in colour, but i dont know where it terminates, when i get used to the site i will have a look how to download pics, thanks

Could be an override for an alarm that was removed, I've run across them from time to time in used vehicles.

Alarm override. Checks all the boxes= hidden behind fairing, makeshift bracket, flat screw, wiring doesn't match up with factory harness.

I would agree. That is not factory at all. It's amazing how much a picture helps.

restoration still underway, at the moment i am trying to rebuild the bike, replacing all of the damaged parts, up to now i have replaced, footrests and brackets, gear lever, switch gear, headlamp, fairing support frame, front fairing, radiator, oil cooler, horn, once i get the bike complete i will strip and rebuild, parts that are hard to find are plastic panels for a 1989 bike, i have managed to get seat panels but thats about all, am waiting for the autojumbles to resume next year, will keep you posted.
