Unhappy Replaced the cam chain tensioner, went out in a day.

New F4i owner here,
I just spent the day yesterday replacing the infamous cam chain tensioner on my 2002 F4i with 41k miles, and it ran like a top right after I replaced it. Felt great, no problems until about 20 miles in when the same problems and noises as before came right back. The tensioner was an OEM style auto tensioner, maybe it's just because it's a cheap version that it it went bad soon after install, maybe I should just get a manual tensioner, who knows. Any testimonies on what will be a good fix or if OEM/manual is the way to go are appreciated
Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum. Well, I think you said you replaced your 20 year old OEM CCT that has 41K miles on it with a cheap aftermarket version. How many times did it need to be adjusted during those 20 years? How long did it last? How many times are you going to have to adjust your manual tensioner?

Probably best pricing around for OEM. How much will you save with a manual?

Just some thoughts.

I'm thinking I'm going to start off with a manual tensioner as they're cheap, and seem to work well enough for others on these forums. Not sure when exactly the original went bad, may have been out for a long time as I got the bike with it bad. Thanks for the thoughts
