Default not an owner yet, and this is why....

Hey everyone, I've been reading this forum for about a month now and I have really learned a lot from everyone. I have always wanted a sportbike, but never knew which one...until now. I've done alot of research and have decided on a 05' cbr 600 rr. The problem is the insurance quotes I have recieved are out of this world. I'm 22, live in southern california, and recently got a DUI. I will soon be taking the MSF course so I can get more experience on riding, and also lower the insurance rate. I went to Progressive for a quote and they would only offer me a 12 month term. the guy said something like $25,000 for full coverage, and $6,000 for liability. Next I called Geico for a quote, and she told me they won't insure me becuase of the recent DUI. I knew my insurance rates would go up because of the DUI but.... WOW! I know i can find a better rate somewhere. Does anyone know of a decent company that will insure in my area. All I am really looking for is liability coverage with theft insurance. Thanks for any advise I recieve in advance! Oh, and also thanks for having me on the forum.

I found state farm was the best but you will probably have trouble getting on with
them because the DUI. You might try a search under "insurance" I know I've seen
this question several times before. You might need to buy an older bike outright
to give you more options until the DUI drops off. It helps alot if you have a
house and multiple cars all under the same insurance company....good luck

you can try esurance, mercury, etc or any of those "low end" insurance companies. They might be able to help you out. Good luck.

You are quite candid about getting a DUI. To me this suggests that this wasa once in a lifetime expirence that you learned from. Welcome to the site and good luck.

Does California even require insurance? Florida doesn't. But I did have Progressive (1100/yr) and now I have state farm (400/year), fortunately I haven't been caught DUI, although in my past there were many times I shouldn't have been driving and I have been lucky not to get caught or crash and hurt somebody (I am alot smarter now, no more than one drink when I am out).

Good luck with you search, California has some great place to ride.
