Newbie here with a 1996 CBR 600 F3 for $850
Sorry I forgot to introduce myself, I got all wrapped up in stuff I needed from here and forgot to say hi.
I just recently got a 1996 Honda 600 F3 for $850. It's ugly, but doesn't leak and is unreal fast. It has the reverse shifting added to it. Not sure if I like it, but we will see after a while. Here are two pics:

GP Shifting
Yes, GP shifting. Feels weird to me, but I kind of like it. The bike is for my 15yo daughter (going on 16), so I hope she will like it. If not, I can flip around one small piece and resolve that issue.
As far as the fairing, I have no clue. If you say F2, you are probably right because I wouldn't know one way or the other. F3 fairing will be on it shortly. My kid wants this one:

I agree. I went through the same issue with my wife trying to ride my racing quad after learning the shifting pattern of a clutchless honda trail 110!

Nice
Well, I did was most people suggested and I switched the GP shift back to normal shifting. Man, that took forever (5 minutes). Since I have started to have a little hesitation, I am doing a carb cleaning this Saturday. I also have all the body plastics and I am going to paint it Carolina Blue (Go TarHeels---defending basketball champs) because my kid requested something a little more "girlie". Hopefully it will look similar to the picture below even though it's not the same make of bike. The only other bad thing is, believe it or ot, there is a gang that uses Carolina blue. I can assure you that I wouldn't be afraid of a gang that uses light blue.
