Default Newbie checking in from San Jose, got an F3

Howdy,

New rider (got my license 2 years ago but never got around to getting a bike until about 2 weeks ago).

Bought a somewhat beat up 95 F3 that's in great running condition. I'm hoping having something pre-beat means I won't be tempted to spend money modding it or fixing cosmetics if I drop it.

So far I've put about 1600 miles on the bike, things are going great.

Hoping to get a few minor questions answered -- which direction does the petcock go for "fuel" and "reserve" modes on the F3 -- I've heard it both ways and can't get confirmation. Supposedly it changed between the F2 and the F3? Service manual doesn't say, I don't have access to an owner's manual. Same Q on fuel. I know all about running premium versus regular on vehicles that don't require it, but my endless searches have not turned up the answer to the simple question "what did Honda recommend in the manual?"

I've run premium for my first 1500 miles based on the high 12:1 CR but from what I can gather, premium isn't even required on the F4, so I put regular in my last tank.

anyway, good to be here.

Hey there Reid, congratulations on your new bike. Good choice too. I don't know about the petcock, but surely someone will, if not here, then down in your respective section.
As for fuel, run the lowest octane which doesn't exhibit pre-detonation (pinging). Some folks will argue that premium will increase performance, but I disagree, it decreases performance, imo. There I go on rambling, lol. Feel free to ask away any questions you may develop, there's lots of helpful members here.
Welcome to CBRF

Welcome to CBRF, reid!

I agree with the others on running the lowest octane fuel that doesn't ping.

As far as the fuel/reserve question.... my '95 1000 the reserve is down, on is up. I'm 99% sure that yours is the same way.

Anyway, welcome aboard and ride safe!!
