Ouch...the 38 as a defensive weapon...no thanks. As for the whole 9ft. thing w/the knife....the distance was 21 feet...it has now been pushed up to 30 feet as a result of higher retention levels in todays holsters....the drill is simple....bad guy at a distance of 30 feet with knife in hand....officer at the other end with a triple retention holster...blow the whistle and see waht happens....most times you can get a shot off (simunitions) and then the attacker is all over you....very eye opening drill....the suggested course of action are shots to the hip area in hopes that the perp. will drop from non-functioning lower half. I agree as far as the 45 and 9mm thing...bigger slower is better IMHO...I just thought that some attention needed to be directed at shot placement.
