New Member...Would Love to Get a CBR
Hey guys, I just got my motorcycle license via the MSF class last summer and I'm looking to buy a bike within the next few months so I can enjoy one for this summer. I absolutely adore older CBR600s, like the 600F and the 600F2. I also have nothing against the newer CBRs, but in general I like the paint schemes on the older ones and they're less expensive. My budget is looking to be about $2700 max, although depending on the bike I might go up to $3000.
I was hoping everyone could chime in on what I should look for, and more specifically, where to look for a 600F or F2, since they seem harder to find.
And what kind of mileage is reasonable...would I still get alot of use out of a CBR with 20k+ miles?

A well maintained bike should last much more than 20K miles (my bike is a 2006 with 10+K on it so I hope it isn't half dead) so that shouldn't be a worry. I rode a 20 year old Honda cruiser the other day and it ran great (slow, but great).
You should have no problem getting a 97 or 98 F3 in good mechanical condition for under $2700. There's no reason a bike like that shouldn't be good for 50,000 or 100,000 miles or more.
ebay and craigslist are both good places to look for bikes. If you do a search of this forum, you'll get a lot of information about what to look for when checking out a used bike.
Welcome, and enjoy the ride.

I'd prefer a bike with higher mileage and a good owner to a low mileage bike with a crappy owner. I like people who document things. I keep all my receipts no matter how minor.
GL with finding a bike. Make sure you get some good gear.

welcome. im new as well. good luck on your search. I just purchased an 01 f4i with less than 5k miles for 3k on craigslist.. its in great shape. check craigslist multiple times daily because the best deals dont last long....
+1 got my 02 f4i a few weeks ago for 3400 with 9k and no cosmetic damage at all. you just have to be patient and keep searching on a daily basis or do what i did, post a wanted ad on craigslist with a price and exactly what you are looking for. there is alot of people who need quick cash and the first thing they sell is their bike for less than its really worth.
