I'm johnny, I have 27 years and I am French, I own a Honda CBR 900 of 1994 which photos here and I am delighted to be part of your community

Nice ride Angelius, and welcome to the forum.

Can someone please tell me why the European models are called fireblades? Why don't we have such a cool moniker.

Literary translation means "blade of light" but the "blade tapered" it is better.
This name, would mean that despite its big engine, this bike kept aesthetics and weighing close to 600 cc, while sharp and effective winding portion.
I see no other explanation
