Helllo All,
I bought two used Honda's and starting to fix them. I'm retired from the Army and served for 24 1/2 years. I was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and most of my sevice was in the Air Calvary or TF 160th (blackhawk down unit) at Fort Campbell, KY.
The CBR 1000 F is in fair shape and was laid down and needs the side fairings. It's failrly low miles for a 1990 model (16.8 K) and ran fine when road tested but does not like to start now. I'm an experienced diesel & airplane mechanic; also worked for a bike shop but years ago.
The Hurricane was bought with a charging problem but started & ran 100%. The pike has been setting and covered for 6 months. I put stabilizer additive in the tank with high test gas.
My newest trick is a propane torch to start engines that are not getting fuel. The engine starts up with propane feed into the air cleaner. After about 5 minutes ofrun time, the engine will idle properly and restart when warm. The choke seems to work and I'm not sure what the .. Starting Problem may be.
The Rectifier was replaced (prior to sale) and the battery too. I have read about all the problems with " Charging System, " and would like to upgrade all the electrial parts I can with the Best Parts that are out there from another source. Can anyone direct to the right source ???
My 2nd bike is a -- 1983 650 SilverWing with a charging problem and would like advice there too.
Note: I bought a 1988 Hurricane new and really enjoyed the bike. I lived in Mojave, CA and would open it from time to time (150 MPH) and the Hurricane was a lot fun. It was ripped off on Thanksgiving day and it has taken me 24 years to buy another one. However, I don't I see 150 MPH speeds anymore at 64 years old.
Thanks A lot
Avery

Welcome
Hi,
firstly, welcome to the forum.
Based on your post I presume your battery is okay and putting enough charge through?
If the bike has been standing that long i would suspect dirty carbs and/or mixture is way out. I am guessing here based on your 'propane' starter kit.
IMO, start at 101 - battery, plugs, air filter, carbs.
Good luck
Rick.

The two names in aftermarket for electrical components are Rick's and Electrosport.
Both have an excellent reputation and support their 1 year warrenties.
If you need any harness connectors vintageconnections.com is where I have been going.
Here's a couple of good links to diagnostics for electrical/charging systems...
Charging System Diagnostics - Rectifier/Regulator Upgrade - Triumph Forum: Triumph Rat Motorcycle Forums

For general OEM, a lot of folks swear by Ron Ayers.
Hope this is what you're looking for, Ern

Hey man, Welcome to the forum.
Those are some nice bikes you have, as for the charging system on your silverwing you need to check the R/R I just replaced the one on mine. Got an OEM used one in good shape off ebay for 30 bucks shipped.
Here is my silverwing. Its an 1980 500cc model, custom built hardtail, ton's of mod's in it, they are fun bikes. With endless possibilities.
