Default New Guy

Hi, my name is Matt, I live in Portland, OR. While I've had my motorcycle license for years, I just bought my first bike, a 2003 CBR 600 F4i, two days ago. I don't know a lot of about bikes and gear, so I'll be looking for information and advice on this forum.

First issue, my bike has a Muzzy exhaust on it, I'm told it's a high performance muffler and it does sound good, although loud. I'm not too interested in having a louder than normal muffler. I'm considering getting an OEM muffler, probably off EBay and selling this Muzzy muffler. I'm not sure how to find out exactly what model it is or what it's worth, does anyone have any advice on this subject?

Thanks.

Hey Matt ~ Congratulations on your new bike; very nice indeed. You came to the right place. This forum has tons of F4i members; lots of information here. I'll start off by giving you the first piece of advice (more of an opinion really), do not get rid of that Muzzy for an OEM can! Stock mufflers are considered junk aroung here, lol. But hey, it's your bike, and it's just a suggestion
E-Bay is a great place to shop; for sure. Typically you can just search "F4i" and you'll be good to go.
Welcome to the forum; make yourself at home...

Hi and welcome Matt!
Welcome to the HONDA family and congrats on the new bike, she looks great
Try posting your question in the F4i forum you'll get plenty of answers there
As far as the Muzzy slip-on & stock exhaust, the Muzzy might be a little loud, but there probably aren't too many pipes out there that are truly quiet, except for the stock pipe.My Jardine is kinda quiet probably cause it has the street baffle in it but really open up when on the gas.
Good luck on whatever you decide to do

Yeah that's what I thought at one point too. Then I got my 929RR with the D&D exhaust on it and realized how awesome it sounded. Also, I prefer people to hear me coming.

If you just want it quieter, I would investigate the possiblity of putting in a baffle/silencer/db-killer--whatever you want to call it--before going back to a stock pipe.

I meant to add...I have come to lovelovelove the exhaust on my bike...but this baby is LOUD! Like, when I come home late at night (as in any time after 10 or 11--lots of little kids in my neighborhood) have to stay under 10 mph, preferably 5, to avoid being obnoxiously loud. Other than that, I love it. I can tap my rev limiter and drown out the rice rocket next to me with ease. It's great
