Default New to Forum, Old to riding.

Hello, been riding motorcycles since conception in 1969.

Mom and dad were stationed in Bermuda so a motorcycle was the best transportation. I was born in 1970 at King Edward the 2nd Memorial Hospital and when I was 5 days old Mom and dad brought me home on a BSA.

They brought me back from Bermuda to the states in April of 70. Dad bought a 1972 350 Honda Scrambler and as soon as I could straddle the tank and hold onto the cross-bar on the handle bars (about 18 months old) I started riding around Joliet with Dad everywhere he went.

In 76 Dad bought a bran new Honda CB550F Super Sport (he still has it), I was there when he signed the paperwork for it.

Dad is 77 now and still riding. He mainly rides his R80. I have not had a bike since I sold my Victory Hammer in 2011. Dad may only have this season left on 2 wheels so I just purchased a 2005 CBR600RR with 23K miles on it so that I can get back on two wheels with Dad. Besides, I have always wanted a Sport Bike. The closest thing I have had to a sport bike was my 1984 Honda VF500 Interceptor. 3 years ago I was 400 pounds and could only ride cruisers. I am 195 now and even tho I am 53yo, I still wanted a Sport Bike.

My buddy bought an 04 R6 new back in 2004, and was going to sell it to me but he couldn't get the bike ready in time (I have been bugging him bout it for 3 years to get the artwork done). My Dad (we are pretty sure) has dementia. He is hiding it well. He still rides but NEEDS GPS. I want to get as much riding in with him this year because it may be his last year riding. So I totally upset my buddy with the R6 by telling him my Dad is more important, and just getting on 2 wheels was WAY more important than getting his R6 no matter how badly I wanted it (I am a non-brand specific motorcycle nut).

So a stunt rider friend of mine helped me shop for another bike over this past weekend. My stunt rider buddy rides Hondas and found me a sweet 2005 CBR600RR for a REALLY good price that was meticulously maintained, has only 23K mi on it, I contacted the girl who was selling it and we went to look at it. It is super clean, runs like a top, and has new tires. We swung a deal and I picked it up the next day (yesterday). As I was about to ride off into the sunset (rain) with it, she stopped me and said "Her name is Lady, if you take car of her, she will take care of you". She was about to cry. I think she sold it to buy a house. Would love to run into her on 2 wheels again some time. She and her husband said they will get bikes down the road.

I took the RR out today before work and it is so darn comfortable, and the only bike I have ever had that even remotely came close to being as quick as this RR was my 1981 Yamaha XS11. Needless to say, I am very happy with this 600RR and love it. It has a Yoshi pipe and muffler and I plan on changing up the bodywork (I want to buy "Lady" a new dress). Other than that and regular maintenance, I will just enjoy riding my RR.

Thanks,

WP

Default Build thread?

I do not see a "build thread". I have gotten my body kit from NT-Fairings and want to start a build thread. Yes, I went against my wife's wishes and went crazy buying parts for the RR.

Where would it be most appropriate to start a "build thread"?
