Default New to forum

I'm new to the forum and hoping you can give me some insight!

I recently saw an ad for a new 2007 CBR 1000 with a msrp of $11,500 and a sale price of $8k. The ad further states that it's over $3k off the price and essentially a great deal. OTD price equates to about $8700 after taxes and such.

I realise the bike is new but it's still a 2 year old model - based on my research, the msrp should be more in the range of $8300. Am I way off base?

Any info would be appreciated while I continue to look for a new bike!

the first thing i would ask you is this gonna be ur first bike? cuz if it is id tell ya to get a used one and if it is the first 1000 probaly isnt the best route ive been riding(MX) for years and still get tons of fun outta my 600...if your willing to spend that much i would say get a used bike thats less and spend the $ on upgrades cuz ur gonna eventually wanna go to body mods exhaust exc so u can brake the same price for something customized to you. as far as the price i think it sounds decent but ive never bought a bike new the other guys on here would know better about showroom stuff

Thanks for the reply! It's not my first bike; I'm currently riding an RF900. My plan is to upgrade towards the end of the year but am keeping an eye open for deals and the market in general. The fact that the bike was a 2 year old model and new caught my attention. I've started researching now to get a handle on the market and make a sound purchase financially. I'm looking at used bikes as well as new - other than which models I like and will consider, nothing is set in stone.

The actual price seems fair to me but what I don't understand is that they advertise it as $3k under msrp when it really isn't. It's $3k under the msrp of a 2009 model, not a 2007 model in 2009! With the economy, the fact that a motorcycle is a basically a recreational vehicle here in Ohio where you can only ride for a relatively short time of the year, and it's 2 years old, I thought I could possibly get a new bike with warranty for similar price of an actual used bike.

They are advertising msrp in 2007, that being said it's a good price for a bike that's never had oil in it. Try and talk them down a bit with talk of I'll take it today

welcome to the site

I stopped short of telling them I'll take if..., but gave them a number of $7k out the door. Probably a lowball number but I read a post somewhere (thought it was here) about a guy getting a new 2007 model for that. I thought that once they stopped laughing they may come back with a number somewhere in between...they may still yet, who knows.

I'm not dead set on the bike; I've just started looking seriously and I have a bike. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
