So I just picked up my first CBR, a 95' CBR 900 RR to be exact, about 4 months back now. Love it and love riding it.

I picked up the hobby from my uncle who passed away on his bike sadly, a Honda Rune, but always remember everything about his 90's Honda 1000. Sadly I do not have anyone to teach me all of the true maintenance aspects of owning my bike. My main issue is when I plan to replace my chain and sprockets with my new parts, as I have no true bearing on how to even do so.

However I live in the mountains of SoCal and would love to meet some fellow riders!!

Welcome to the forum!
I'm in socal as well, but down on the south OC coast.
There are some write ups on how to change a chain and sprockets, check them out and see if you can handle it. It's not rocket science, but if you dont have the tools or are not confident that you can do it safely, take it in and have a professional do it.

+1 demon said...not rocket science but if you don't have the tools...then have a motorcycle mechanic do it...try hunting for the parts online at a discounted price...the savings will help you pay labor for the mechanic...win/win...
