My First Time...
Hey Guys!
New to this forum...have read many great posts on this forum and is the reason why I signed up!
I just got a 1988 CBR600 Hurricane for my birthday! (on June 16th). My girlfriend is so awesome. I live in Winnipeg up in Canada. Our riding season here is short - May to October (if your lucky) but there are a lot of sunny days for good riding.
A little history about the bike. This is actually my second time owning it. I bought the bike in June 2002. Rode it for a couple years until my girlfriends roommate back into it while pulling out of her parking spot! Damaged right fairing, broken left mirror, cracked turn signal housing. Obviously I was ticked off and my insurance company asked me if I wanted it written off or fixed. I planned to sell that year anyways so I took the settlement (a little over $3000). That was mistake number 1. I could have bought the bike back for $900, fixed it up, and collected on the difference ($2100 in my pocket). But I didn't. So about a week later, I told a couple of guys at work that the bike was written off. About 3 weeks after that, there it is, my 88' Hurricane in the parking lot of where I work. I was so choked. Turns out one of the guys at work bought the bike at the auction and fixed it up, safetied it and put on the road. I was bitter for quite sometime. It's like your friend just stole your girlfriend and there is nothing you could do about it....cuz he owned it - and he had the papers to prove it. But I couldn't stay bitter cuz really, he was a nice guy. Then he sold it to his brother in 2005.
So about 5 weeks ago, I got wind that my co-worker was taking it to the shop for his brother to be safetied cuz he wanted to sell it. I was pretty sad cuz I didn't have the money to buy it and plus I would never see it again. Even though it wasn't mine anymore I was still able to see it at work everynow and then. I told my girlfriend that he was selling it. So she snuck around my back and arranged to buy it off him! Man, you should have seen the look on my face when I saw my co-workers brother pull up to my house with the Hurricane. I didn't think I would ever get her back...I thought so many times about how I should have bought it back from the insurance company instead of letting it go. And here it is, standing in front of me. I consider myself very lucky. I think every person out there has regrets about letting something go in the past...whether it was a car, motorcycle, or anything. It's rare that you get these things back.
Now that I have my bike back, I'm never letting it go!
