glad to see a few ozzies here as well!!
and i have a couple of mates i can ride with that are experienced riders so they will be a great help
i do have a question if someone can help, i know it is a great bike for running around town but i was wondering if once i have my confidence levels up and more confident would it be possible to do a small trip on the bike or would it be best to wait to upgrade to a bigger bike such as a 250 for trips??

Mate , when I was 17 , I rode my Honda XL250 1500 klms to SA and back as well as many many slightly shorter runs on her , till I got my first really big bike when I turned 18...
Your CBR will do interstate quite well if you stick to the speed limits .... they are fine to run all day at 100klph - 110 klph!! :-)
The only thing to be concerned about is all the other road users and your confidence ....the bike will be fine ....
take care and ride her ...!! that is what she was made for ! ....
