Default Hey from Melbourne, Australia

hi everyone, my name is Ashleigh-Jayne and i have just bought a 1989 CBR250R (MC19). Its currently got Repsol fairings along with the orange wheels to match. i have never ridden before so i've bought this as my first bike with the plan of upgrading to a later model 1000cc Repsol in the future.

my bike currently does not run as the valves need adjusting and i have been told these use shims. my boyfriend is very mechanical but rides a yamaha and ktm - is this something he could do to teach me about the bike?

thanks

AJ

Welcome, AJ!
You and your boyfriend shouldn't have any trouble doing a valve shim job. Just make sure and read the manual, take your time, and TAKE NOTES!
It's more difficult than standard adjustable tappets, but not something you should have to pay big bucks to a shop for.

BTW, I see you've met our good friend CBRClassic...
If you ever see some guy hauling azz on a sweet red, white, and blue 1000F, you'll know you've caught a glimpse of the Classic in action.
But seriously, he's a great dude and if you ever have a question and don't know who to ask.....let him know!

Welcom Ashleigh-Jayne from the land of the Zulus !
The 250 is a great starter bike, lightweight and friendly.
Classic's given you the "tour" so just enjoy what we have to offer.
And there are no dumb questions here - so ask away.
