Thanks for the welcome, the problem appears to have fixed itself..

What happened i pulled over for some fuel ( 3rd fill up of the day!) and could smell a funny smell and hear a buzzing noise from my bike, as i dont a alarm we thought this was weird so removed the seat to find the battery red hot and venting!!, we removed it from the bike and it stayed really hot for 2 hours while the recovery truck was on its way.. Everybody said it was maybe the regulator? but ive had this check many times and it never reads above 14.5v and the stator checks out ok aswell.

I have since replaced the battery and cover another 500 local miles with no issues at all, the problem is that i just dont trust the bike

I think it was still the original battery on the bike (9years old) and it may have just given up?? ( on this trip i had cover 1200 miles in 4 days so it had a good run!)

What do you think?

A 9 yr old battery? Not so sure about that. Nevertheless, perhaps that was the problem. Hope you continue on w/o problems.
