Default Hello cbr forum people.

hello everyone. my names jeff. im 26 and married with a daughter that is 7 months old. that pretty much somes that up lol, well i thought id try to get on a forum somewhere to seek advice later for a build i will be doing. i purchased a 99' f4 frame with most of everything still working. i am going to be buying an engine tonight or tomorrow for the thing and am curious where theres a good spot to buy these engines and if anyone suggests going to an f4i engine with a new gas tank? i like the idea because its my first bike and the carb'd engine just to gnarly for me i think. with it being my first bike and it having one of those stunting gear ratios set up on it would it be good to get it gear'd right for little torque as possible? i appreciate any advice anyone has!

Welcome to the forum Sevenx.

Sounds like a huge task you've set yourself, do you have previous experience in rebuilds?

if its your first bike, I would suggest just putting the same engine as stock one into it.

make things as simple as possible and just enjoy riding it

hawkwind2016: its bit of a bigger project for me, i have no experience in rebuilds. i have a guy who rebuilds them all the time that i bought it from he said hed help me as well if i come across any troubles. i figured to start posting pics and stuff on here as well once i get everything set up to start working on it.

Tigertim20r1: it is first bike. do you know any pros and cons of going injected vs carb'd engine? ive heard both, the carb just sounding a lot meaner to me lol. it is a cheaper build tho and would ultimately have the bike running faster which im cool with, just curious if it would be better for a new guy to start with injection or carb.

i appreciate the advice guys! my reason for jumping straight into a build is that i dont know a whole lot about them and with every time i build something i have a way better understanding of how everything works and if anything is wrong with whatever i built. If i were to get one id like to know if something goes wrong with it how to fix it.

Buying an engine complete with harness would be a good idea, or maybe you could buy a harness from a wrecked bike.

If you have help from someone with experience, so much the better.

There's a wealth of knowledge here and people willing to help.

Good luck!

the only thing that makes a bike more or less dangerous, is the control you have over your right wrist. its not about carbs or injection etc, and frankly, there is zero difference between them in terms of which is 'better' for a new rider.

The better question is, what can you do to be a safer rider as a newbie, and the answer to that is simple, - advanced rider training courses. take any you can find, you will be safer for it.
