Hello
My name is Samuel. I am from Michigan. I recently picked up a '99 CBR600 with 17.5k back in April of 2013. This is my first bike but this is my second year riding. I am a complete n00b when it comes to motorcycles. I do not know anything about carb systems, aftermarket sprockets, etc. Thus why I joined this forum. I am big into cars, mostly imports, and I am apart of a few automotive forums. I own a 2004 Honda Civic EX with the Honda Factory Performance package.
Previous owner installs:
- Flush mount turn signals
- Integrated tail light
- Muzzy slip on
What I've done:
-Had the clutch rebuilt (Dealership Install)Previous owner broke a post within the clutch and attempted to JB Weld it back on. Needless to say that failed and warped all of the plates. This was not disclosed prior to me purchasing the bike.
-New clutch cable (Dealership Install)
-New chain (Dealership Install)
-Installed an APE Tenioner
Plans:
- New tires (Any recommendations?)
- New brakes (Any recommendations?)
- Jet kit (Any recommendations?)
- Maybe a HID kit
- Attempt to fix the right fairing which is cracked (You can see it in one picture)

welcome to CBRF. i'm glad you're getting into bikes. i think you'll find that they're much simpler and much more fun than cars (at least, that's what happened to me).
as far as jets go - jets are jets. it depends on which one (number coded) you need for your application. sometimes, jet kits are cool because they come with adjustable air needles for the slide side - but the jets are the same. and you could always go the oldschool way of shiming your stock air needles via washers.
fixing the fairing isn't all that hard - there are plenty of "how to's" on this forum for accomplishing that.
if you want upgraded brakes, we really only change the kind of material the pad is made out of, and add stainless steel lines. but you could always go crazy, get a different bike's front end on there (600rr for example) - with better brakes (along with a sweet USD fork set up), and swap out your M/C with another bikes' that's slightly stronger. it's pretty nice, because almost all sportbikes out there have 7/8in bars, so virtually any bike's M/C will fit. but for starting out, there's nothing wrong with stickin SS lines and some HH pads on there (HH pads if you ride hard).
anyways, welcome again. there's tons of info on this site and your imagination is the limit when it comes to your bike.
