Happy Days !!

Got there and the Bloke is gutted as the clutch is now working......Still only firing on two tho, two adjacent on the left as you sit on the bike. So has to be carbs not coils.

Bike is now crammed into the garage and ready for inspection !!

D.D.

Crammed in.

So today I got stuck into the CBR, the plan being to figure out the problem with the two cylinders (1 and 2) As I said, I ruled out bad coils as that would have shown up as 1 and 3 or 2 and 4.(or similar) .I checked for fuel in the bowls, there was fuel. New Plugs were new fitted by P.O. Next, I got plug number one out. I had to get a wrench onto my plug spanner to crack it, God knows who torqued it down this hard, as you know it should be finger tight and a nip up....
Anyway, I tested the one plug I knew was good (4), in position one. good spark. OK ....... Tested the original plug, OMG..... lol, Sparking and arcing all over the place. I pulled number two, the same. I had some old plugs I took out of a CX500, same spec, apart from temp (8 instead of 9). I banged them in and Boom, firing on all 4 cylinders like a Good Un.
All I can think of is that they were cheap Chinese copies, that he had bought unknowingly, as plugs are stupid money nowadays, or the insulators had been damaged from being tightened down so hard ?

Happy campers here at Dibley Towers with such an easy fix. Plus, all the gears selected up and down with no problems at all.

D.D.

Plug on the left has never fired in it's life.

Just one bit that was hanging off.

She's shined up well so far.

Thanks Al.

Did a bit of cleaning today, there seems to be 20 years of dust in there, and some rust prevention.
I dropped a screwdriver bit in the bike and it didn't come out of the bottom, so a mad search ensued. I Found a bolt in there that some one else had lost at some point as well as my bit.

D.D.

Loose bolt, looks like a tank retaining bolt to me.

Well, it's washing up isn't it Love.........Ouch!!

Getting better. The swing arm will come out for a paint at some point.

I got the swing arm and the shock out today. I'm going to paint the swing arm after cleaning it up and give the shock and pivot a good clean and check the bearings.

D.D.

Years of grime.

Lots of rust but only on the surface.

I made my own lifting kit for the Abba skylift using their swing arm kit. To be fair all I had to do was cut the bolts down a bit.
