Talking G'Day from the Adelaide Hills, South Australia

G'Day All,

Just a quick note to introduce myself.

Bought a '91 CBR1000F this morning, pick it up tomorrow. Owner, an older man, sold it very cheaply due to a starting problem - after doing a bit of research, I would suggest starter clutch and/or damper but will investigate further when I get it home tomorrow.

Anyhoo, long time rider - 36 years legally, from supebikes to my beautiful, farkled to the limit Kawasaki 1000GTR which is a fantastic long-legged tourer that my partner and I have toured Australia on a number of times.

Purchased the CBR1000F because I have always lusted after one and have had rave reviews from friends who have ridden them.

So, please go easy if I ask what appear to be stupid questions as I only wish to learn about this fantastic new toy.

Cheers, Craig

Thanks for the welcome Guys,

I sat up last night reading much in the Hurrican section, and now am itching to set off and collect the bike this morning.

I'll take a few pictures and post them tonight. I'm hoping to get the bike started today and take my partner for a ride - if only to convince her of the new project being money well spent.

Cheers

Thanks Shadow,

Have been reading up a lot on the bike - just about all in the Hurricane board - as mine has a starting problem (turns over too slowly with a freshly charged battery). Managed to start it and take it for a fang in the hills this afternoon. Just bloody marvellous and still have the grin on my dial.

Cheers, SB

You need a new stator damper - bike sounds like the battery's flat.....Yup !
Been there..........
There are posts on how to do it in the how to section I think, if not I'll give you a hand - contrary to what the book says you don't have to take the engine out.........
and you can rebuild the damper which sits on the end of the stator shaft.............
Let me know what help you need.

Speak nicely to Aussy Johnno - he may have one....................
All the boys will help if they can, even if it's just to give encouragement.

Thanks Shadow,

Yup, that is the conclusion I had come to, so thanks for the confirmation. I found the how to on-line which is what led me to this forum. Serendipitous or what!

I responded to Johnno's post re the damper, but no response, so I'll hunt up his member details and PM him.

Glad to have any input, am very familiar with rebuilding bikes from engines up. Just finished doing a starter clutch on a Kawasaki 750GT - not entirely an enjoyable job.

Cheers, SB

We should move some of this to the Hurricane section - there are a number of guys who've had their bikes for years and done a good deal of the work themselves........
Open a new post in the Hurricane section with your question and let's go from there.
I did a rebuild on a GPz900 Kwack about 4 years back.............turned out quite nicely.

Let's see some pics of your bike Craig - we looooove pics !
Oh and if Jonno won't part with a damper, go here
www.mrcycles.com
they have new ones for about $220.........eek !
