Default First real bike

I'm in the market for a motorcycle but need help deciding what one to get.
im trying to choose between the cbr500r and the cbr600rr. it will be my first bike of my own i have some riding experience never on anything bigger then a 200. I would get the 500 but then I'm scared that i would get bored of it really fast and not have the money to upgrade. should I just save the extra money and get the 600 or go get the 500 . any advise is greatly appreciated

you will get tons of advice on the internet, and you should pay attention to most or none of it. without knowing your true skill set there's no way to tell you what you're capable of handling at the upper end of the scale, but to recycle a quote: "if you can't still have fun on the 500, you're doing it wrong."

Welcome to the CBR Forum BV,

+1 to regener8ed's comment.

Some of the best fun I have had on 2 wheels were racing a 50cc moped. And I toured 3,300 km last year through Vietnam on a 125cc.

Motorcycles and riding are what you make it. Try a few and see what you are comfortable with.

Cheers, SB

I would suggest you go with the 600. In my opinion they look a lot better, they are more fun because they are peppier. i just started riding about 4 months ago and went with a 600cc F4. Everyone says start with a scooter or 300cc you will die on a 600. Well 600cc is plenty damn fast for me now and I'm enjoying the bike and will continue enjoying the bike for a long time. But like everyone above me said regardless of the power of the bike it's what you make of it. I dont like going all that fast but I sure like to try going fast in the turns lol.

Welcome to CBRF! Get the one you want. People start on 600's and do just fine. I did - and I felt like I learned a lot. But I'll tell you this. My wife had a GS500 - and that bike was soooo much fun. Once you get used to riding - you can wring that thing out a lot more than you can an RR. You can WOT bang out the first 3 gears on that bike and not be breaking the law. You can't do that on an RR. I guess that kind of reflects regenera8ed's quote

Welcome.

Get both!
2 wheels is 2 wheels. Just get up and be safe.

welcome, I see every bike as a real bike, and they can all go over the speed limit so in reality why do we need 600s? I say test ride them both and see which one you like more!

Welcome to cbrf. As said above, definitely try both. It will come down to your personal preference and what you, being honest with yourself, can handle. I started on a 600 and was fine. Of course, I had my scary moments. If you get a 600, just take it easy, dont be immature and try being a stunt rider right out the gate, and most importantly, gear up. You will be fine. Like was stated above though, You can push a 500 alot farther then you can a 600 and still be within the "law". Either way, get riding. And I have found, when I want to upgrade..... well, I make it happen.... may take ten dollars a week or whatever but I get there, you will too
