Default 600 CBR 2009 as a first real bike?

Hi there,
I'm 21 years old and have been riding a vespa 50cc since the age of 16. I just passed my M1 license on a honda rebel 250cc (taking the highway patrol class) with no real difficulty.

I was therefore wondering if the CBR 600 2009 would be a good fit for my first bike, even if it isn't your classic entry level bike?

Thank you in advance

A 600RR can be a great first bike and a awful first bike. If you have been around bikes(not scooters) for a while and understand how everything on a bike works, understand throttle control and if you don't have throttle control what can happen, understand braking, understand turning and handling then yes it is a great first bike as well as a great 20th bike. However if you just thought to yourself last week that having a bike would be awesome (cause it is) and started looking and came across a 600RR then I would think twice. You should get experience on something less forgiving like a CBR 250R or even a GS500. Once you get experience on that for a couple years then step up to a 600RR

Thanks for the quick reply R dub, of course I understand that there is a gigantic gap between a scooter and a real bike, I just threw it in there to portray that I have been on two wheels on the street for a while now. As I also stated I took the highway patrol lessons to get my license and they set me up on a honda rebel 250cc, it really didn't present any challenge whatsoever. However as i keep reading on the CBR 600, it seems to be slightly unforgiving. I really was heading towards a Buell blast 500cc, however I came across an incredibly cheap deal through a friend to get a 2009 600CBR with under 1000 miles on it for $2200(in perfect condition), which as a student looking for a bike is hard to refuse even if I am on the beginner end. So I ask once again considering this price and knowing that is my top budget, is this bike so unforgiving that I should pass up the offer and spend this money on a 500cc that is over 11 years old?

it was and still is my first bike. you just have to know that your not the best rider out there and respect the power of the bike itself. take it easy and learn as much as you can. im still in the learning process myself

$2200 for a 09 600RR with low miles and perfect condition. WOW! Assuming the bike has a clean title then you should have picked that up weeks ago. That is the steal of the decade right there. The 600RR can be forgiving. If you give it too much gas it won't flip you on your back instantly. It does give you a little time to react. However it can still get you in trouble very fast. With that being said it is a deal that you can't nor shouldn't pass up. Hell you can even turn around and sell it for $7200 and make a $5K profit. The key is just to take it slow and learn the bike and what the bike is capable of. I am assuming you have checked insurance prices too? And prices of gear? Don't want you to spend all your cash on the bike and have nothing left over for gear and insurance.

I think the deciding factor here is YOU as to if it's a good first bike. If you're the stereotypical adrenaline/hormone driven “Kid” (no disrespect intended) then no, it’s not a good first bike. If you’ve got your act together and a more mature and cautious nature, then go for it. You can get into trouble with any bike, it just happens faster with the heavier more powerful ones. Be honest with yourself.

Under no circumstances should you get that RR for your first bike, you should buy it though, then sell it to me and save your money for an R1
