My name is Ross & am new to this forum, Looking for advice from fellow Honda owners. Great bikes btw. I have a 1996 919 CBR900RR Fireblade with 60,000km. Bike regularly serviced. For many years there's been
noises emitting from the engine. I have replaced the Cam Chain Tensioner with a genuine Honda part, made absolutely no difference, I have removed the engine side cover & rocker cover to inspect the chain, guides & tensioner, all looks ok to me. I am a licensed light vehicle motor mechanic of 40 years so I'd like to think I have some idea. Riding the bike with the engine under load, up to about 5.500rpm there's a noise from the left rear side of the engine that sounds like a cricket chirping, twist more throttle the noise gets louder. Can be heard easily through the helmet. I don't believe it's pinging cause of where it comes from. Clutch basket was checked & looked o,k but it's on the other side. Both sprockets & drive chain have been replaced. When decelerating it makes a similar sound. I did notice when checking the valve clearances some time ago, it made the sound when turning the engine backward by hand. As i said, the noise has been there for a while and does not affect the performance of the bike. I realize diagnosing noises without hearing is almost impossible. Perhaps someone has experienced a similar problem? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
