So I have a sudden rattling noise from the engine. Specifically the top/left side. It’s much harder to hear from the right side. My best description is it sounds like marbles moving around. It starts about 20 seconds after I start the bike and continues the whole time during idle and through all gears. I haven’t noticed any change in performance. Any help would be super appreciated.

 

Sounds like you have a failed Cam Chain Tensioner. How many miles on the bike?

 

Only 9k but who knows what the doofus before me reset it at. I think I’ve located it to the stator cover though. Something in there is moving around.

 

Ouch, that does not sound good, looks like you will have to open it up and have a nose about, hopefully nothing too serious fingers crossed.

 

I had this issue and I know it sounds dumb but I checked my engine oil level and it was very low.
topped up and bingo, no cam chain tensioner rattle.
A mistake some make is screwing the dip stick right in to check oil level.
don’t screw in just dip and read level.
