Question CBR600f4 random decel

I believe its the carb. The bike has about 36k miles on it and has had some basic fixes but nothing to crazy. That's what i heard from the previous owner. How ever these past 2 rides on the highway the bike randomly started deaccelerating and forcing me to get off the highway. No matter how much throttle i gave it. It wanted to decell. I got off checked the gas and started it back up and boom no problems got to where I was going and no more problems. I thought it was just a one time thing but on my way home the same thing happened. It seemed to clear after a couple of rough revs. I think its probably the carb starting to get gunked up. not sure. Might try to run a fuel additive to maybe clean it out. This might fix it and if it doesn't then I guess ill have to dig into the carbs and see how dirty they are. Let me know what you think. Also I have ridden the bike further these past few mornings to work but never had this issue. Its a pretty new issue.

also another issue if you can help is the rpms are stuck at 6k on the gauges but once I get higher then that the bike picks it up and the rpms go up as the should.

You decel issue could be a blockage in the tank vent pipe, did you hear an inrush of air as you opened the tank cap to check the fuel?

so the tank cap kinda stays open a little since the keys broken off in their but like you said about the air no I did not. The second time it happened I didn’t even open the tank it just seemed to sputter and lose power then clear and pickup again

I would certainly give the additive a go as you have nothing to loose without getting into the carbs, make sure that there is a health amount of PEA in the additive otherwise it will be a waste of money, have there been any in-line filters fitted that you can also look at (one on the petcock may-by), not sure where the originals ones are on this one. Is the tank clean? You might also want to give that a clean out as well.

Yes the tank is pretty clean looking. I haven’t checked the air filter so that might be my problem also. I have no idea where a fuel filter might be but I might be able to locate it, if it has one once I take the tank off to get to the air filter I might be able to see it.

I have checked here, there is one on the petcock Item 12
https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cbr600f-...t/F__1400.html
There does also appear to be an in line filter prior to the fuel pump Item 10.
I would change Item 10 and clean the one on the petcock if you have the tank off anyway and the replacement in line filter will only be a few bucks
STRN.COMP.,FUEL (NON O.E. ALTERNATIVE)

Alright thanks a bunch. I’ll go to my local cycle gear store and see if they have one if not I can order it. I’ll let you know about the air filter that could also be the issue since I don’t think it has been changed ever.

Default I think I fixed it.

So while taking off the tank everything seemed fine. Buttttt when I went to take off the fuel line to the tank I noticed a little hole. If it got stretched a little bit it would open up. So I think at the higher speeds that was opening up and leaking out gas so that’s what’s causing the decel. I fixed it now and it runs good. I’ll have to test it on the highway to make sure that was the issue.

I did leak out of that hole when I tried to take the tank off.

also side note. Bought some seafoam. Gonna run some of that over the next 2 tanks just to clean the carbs a bit. Can’t hurt to try.

Fantastic, great spot. Fingers crossed that sorts it.

Not sure about the Seafoam and whether it will do any good. It does not have PEA in it which is what you need to clean the crud out of the carbs etc.
Something like Techron PEA Concentrate Plus is what you are after.
