welcome to the cbrf. don't have to look hard to find threads about oil burning on the '08s - or to find a variety of opinions on the proper way to break one in. by my reckoning, if honda tells you to do it a certain way, do it a certain way.

Welcome aboard, man!
Opinions vary on break in methods. I hammered the pizz out my new Kawasaki from day one, and despite my WOT break-in method it hasn't burned a drop of oil yet.
I think it makes sense that combustion pressure should help seat rings, but I honestly think the bottom line is that it's either defective or it's not. Maybe hone, maybe rings. I don't think it's gonna make a lick of difference what you do to it. Some prefer the book method, some the motoman, and some in between. There doesn't seem to be a trend of oil burning associated with any particular method that I know of. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I'm 6'3" and ordered a double bubble for my '09 600 - it should help in pushing the wind UP into your face and away from your chest. When sitting upright with my stocker, the wind is going into my upper chest / throat. Hopefully the double will allow me to get under the wind when I tuck; should work the same for you.
