Default 2002 Cbr 954 for a first bike

One of my co-workers past away and left me his 2002 CBR 954 rr. I don't know much about bikes, I rode a couple of dirt bikes when I was a kid. I was following behind my buddy in my truck when he was riding the bike and it sounds like a loud clunk when it shifts gears. I thought it was back firing at first. He said he couldn't here the noise because of the helmet. When I ride it I can't here the noise either. Any Ideas?

Welcome to the site and to the 954 club. Not gonna preach, just be careful out there, thats a lot of bike for a first. If you shift too slow mine can kind of "bang" thru the gears a lil bit, specially on old oil, chain too tight? that can strain the shifting a bit also. Ride next to a building or wall on your left side somewhere and see if you can hear it echo off the wall. Just afew thoughts, but look into some basics first.

Mike Hunt...

Welcome to the forum...

"Mike" that bike absolutely screws -- you just won't believe how fast it is compared to a car! Be careful.

Welcome to the site. +1 to what TK said. I noticed on my f4i that when I shift alittle slower, it kinda clunks, just like when you're going from neutral to first at a stop.

It clunks, it's machinery....IMO it is not a good starter bike...
