Hello everyone!! I'm new here and would like some help about my bike. I searched and searched but no one has my exact problem. So here's the rundown. I was riding my 2001 cbr600 f4i and suddenly the bike died out of nowhere. Tried to turn it back on as I was coasting to somewhere safe to pull over. It did nothing. Hopped off the bike and noticed a strong egg smell. So I took my seat off and apparently the battery had overheated. It was fumes and smoke coming from the two little pin holes at the top of the battery and it was extremely hot and so was the seat. So after it cooled down enough I took it out and ran to the nearest auto store where I picked up another battery. Put it in then boom. The 20A fuse thats by itself popped. S.O.A.B.! so i expeditiously warped back to the auto store and bought a few of those fuses, replaced it, went to start my bike but as soon as I flipped the kill switch, POP! the same 20a fuse popped. In disbelief I popped 3 more in and they all popped me back. Had the bike towed to my house where it now rests in its slumber. Replaced the regulator/rectifier since the battery kept draining even without the bike being on. That battery draining while off issue has been fixed by R/R (Regulator/Rectifier) replacement. So here I am with the 20a fuse keep popping ONLY when I flip the kill switch. Everything else works on the bike. Headlights, dash, gears, taillights, instrument cluster,etc. It even cranks but it will not start due to no fuel priming since the 20a fuse pops everytime I flip the kill switch. So I am not sure if anything is even wrong with the fuel pump since the fuse popping doesn't give it a chance to prime. I switched my engine stop relay and fuel cut relay with my headlight relay to see if they worked and all of those worked . I hear a click from the starter and engine start relay or fuel cut relay when I flip the kill switch to on but it doesn't prime and keeps popping that same 20 a fuse. Any help would be greatly appreciated. SORRY FOR THE EXTRA LONG EXPLANATION. JUST WANTED TO BE THOROUGH AS POSSIBLE. Thanks in advance.

Well, that's an unfortunate "welcome"! Glad you are here though, and hopefully, someone with more electrical experience than I will be along shortly to help you out!

Hmmm, ok I'll take a look at the wiring diagram tomorrow and see what's happening. Clearly a dead short on the down stream circuits from that Engine Stop switch (kill switch). And just for clarification, that's the one on the right throttle control assembly correct?

So, do you have a meter, an analog VOM or a digital dmm? If not, you need to get one. They are not expensive. You can get one a Walmart, Amazon, most parts stores will have them.

hey sorry I dont know how to reply so I just clicked quote. Haha but yes that's correct it is on the right. And also i have not the slightest clue as to what those devices you mentioned are but I'll be more than happy to look them up and purchase one. 🙂 also thank you soooo much for your support

You should have the option for "Reply" at the bottom of the thread dialogue (burgundy button) or "Quick Reply" at the bottom, below the thread and blank dialogue box... but quoting is good too!

There is a bit of a learning curve, especially with the electricals. I know WHAT they are but don't really have a good understanding of how to use them, so you aren't alone in your ignorance!

Ok Thanks! I found it. Quoting seems to be best when you want to respond to a specific person while reply is to the original poster. 🤔 cool! Also I looked those devices up and much like you I know what they are and have only used this one(pic below , above, sideways, or wherever it'll pop up&#128514 to check battery level. I hear nightmare stories about electrical problems with bikes so I'm sure that you're right about a learning curve dealing with electrical issues. 🙄😩

OK, well continuing with the logical question is ok, you have used this one. Does that mean you're in possession of it or just used it in the past? If you don't have one, then pick up an inexpensive one locally. I'd also recommend watching something along these lines.

I still have it but I'll get one of the models as shown in the video. Also that YouTube video was pretty helpful

The issue have on your bike is that you're blowing fuses. More often than not it's a broken, pinched, or bare wire that is touching the frame. That is a relatively easy thing to find with a meter. Once you have it, we can go from there.
