Default 1st year, 1987 Hurricane 1000, 158K Miles and going strong

This bike has a mind of its own. Nicknamed Big Boy, because his brother, (junior) has only 39K on the clock. Owned by the same person and now both came in to my posession randomly and separately. Big Boy runs excellent, the fastest vehicle I have ever tried to pilot. Junior has its motor blown due to overheating we think. It was locked up when I got it, feels like a rod maybe.

Welcome to the site. Guess the 158K is why the seat looks alittle worn out. Great looking bike otherwise!

My first Honda was an '87 Hurricane 1000 in that same color scheme. One of the nicest lookinginstrument clustersever to grace a bike. Nice

87 w/158k = 20 yrs / 158 = 7,900k avg. miles per year
04 w/100k = 3 yrs / 100 = 33,333k avg. miles per year

@ current rate, in 20 yrs. 3rdgen would have 660k miles !?!?! [sm=shades.gif]

Both are great in their own way .. just saying it's not a really a fair comparison .. honda's come out on top either way

agreed! However, there are other factors. First of all, I can not take credit for the miles. This one and his brother are identical and had been off the road for 3 years. Their "Dad" who put on the almost 200K between them was an exemplary owner who meticulously maintained and serviced them, THAT is why these bikes survived. Well, "Big Boy", the 158K one is still going. Productioncode on the gas tank is "AA". The brother, "Junior" went to a second owner. The water pump housing cracked and I think he overheated it. So I got Junior broken. I got a motor from ebay and will drop it in and bring Jr. back to life. Big Boy gets lots of respect from all of the Superbikers around here, well deserved from what I have seen. At 100K, your '04 should pass me IN MILES very soon. But for now, bow down to Big Boy, the grand daddy of CRB-Land!
