Default 1997 Honda CBR600 F3 LOW COMPRESSION

Hi All,

started the bike after two years of sitting and heard a pop will not start after the pop. Not good,, checked the compression
Number 1 = 80 psi
Number 2 = 70 psi
Number 3 = 50 psi
Number 4 = 70 psi

Leaking or damaged cylinder head gasket???

what is the average price for a rebuild? Is worth rebuilding the engine with added horse power?? maybe 110hp or 115hp ( would like to keep it under $1500 )

Thanks in advance

Since all 4 went low at the same time, I would remove the valve cover and inspect the camshafts, chain, and timing.

I wouldn't spend the time or money rebuilding an older 600...

Do as demon suggests and check the valve timing...

Its not going to be cheap getting that kind of rear wheel horsepower out of F3. Your cheapest route would be a low mileage replacement engine. The money you would spend to try and get big hp number from on older bike would best put towards a newer, more powerful, more reliable bike. Take the money you would spend on the rebuild and money you could get for selling the F3 or parting it out, and you could get something pretty nice.

Good luck with your replacement engine, not a bad price either. On a side note, it would be cool as hell to build a nice hopped up F3 engine. But it takes $$$$$$$$. Two Brothers built a F2 back the early 90's with 98 horsepower. It took 1mm over pistons which is $600 today, a set of carbs that cost $1000 today, and a few other things I cant remember, Maybe camshafts and crank work. Plus labor cost and all the gaskets. All for 15 extra horsepower, at the rear wheel.

+ less driveability, and not enough HP to even think about contending with a modern 600....

But don't look at me (the guy who has sunk more money and time into a 954 engine than I'd care to admit)

You're right Conrice, but you sure could kick some **** in the WERA V7 vintage racing with a built F3/F2 engine. The tire guy at Summit Point won the championship on a FZR 400 with a 600 engine and my lap times on my F2 were 2 seconds faster than him.
