Default 1987 CBR600 Hurricane

For starters I have never rode or done anything with a motorcycle before. A buddy of mine had bought a 1987 Cbr600 in pieces, decided it was too much of a project for him, and gave me everything he had free of charge. Where do I even begin? I have a manual and what looks to be most of the parts. Any tips from anyone? Where would I even find parts? There is no title nor VIN from what I can tell. How do I know it’s not stolen? Any and all advice is appreciated.

Congrats on a new to you bike.
I would say the 1st thing to do is find out if its stolen. The VIN should be on the frame and stamped into the engine. If it's stolen find the rightful owner and return it. If it's not, start the process of getting a title.
That's what I would do before I put in any time or money into it.

Here's a link to the parts with exploded views. Maybe this gets you started.
