1000f!!!
Wassup people. I live on the east coast. Been riding on and off for a few years. Dont get much time though. I have a 93 cbr1000f that was given to me by my father. He bought a vtx 1800 and gave me the hurricane for Xmas. I've wanted this bike since he bought it 15years ago. Now that I have it I have work to do. It's been sitting for almost 2 years and doesn't idle without the choke on. Im not a mechanic but I was raised to buy a book and fix it yourself. I've worked on cars before so im looking forward to taking this bike apart and getting it to run smooth again.
Welcome to the forum.
A 1000f as a Christmas gift? What an great dad you have....
I'm sure you will get it up and running great. You will most likely need to overhaul the carbs.

Welcome to the club, man. I agree that's a pretty cool gift. Also agree that it's probably the carbs. I'd give them a good cleaning and go from there. Maybe add some seafoam to try and loosen things up.
Welcome to CBRF! :-)
That was really generous of your father to give you the 1000F. Great that the two of you can share the excitement of motorcycling.
The recommendations above should get you going.

the carbs are gummed up 4 sure. i had the same issue after sitting for 2yrs, so i pulled carbs just enough to remove bowls and access the jets. you may have to totally remove them and use compressed air to clean passages. i found the slow/idle jets clogged, mains were ok but i also cleaned them with carb cleaner and a set of thin torch head cleaners and guitar strings. be careful when cleaning the jets since their brass and can change the jet hole diameter. the slow jets are very small. i found after being very careful that i opened them up enough to cause it to idle poorly, so i again pulled the slow jets out and it was nec to replace them. jets are cheap! now it runs like new. fyi, after reading several post and my own experience, the cbrs seem to take a while to get running after sitting for awhile, ie crank crank crank spit then finally fires up. imo, u better have a good battery or initally jump start with a good car battery till she runs. good luck!
