Whoa! That's interesting.

That should have been in the new October '09 "Going Green" issue of Mototcyclist Magazine!
There were a few homebrew battery powered bikes in there. Cool stuff, especially the stories on electric racing.

Would have been neat as hell to see a 1000F in among them.

I don't understand the big sprocket either. If you add three times the number of teeth to the rear, the front sprocket would have to go three times faster to go the 55 mph as claimed, however those motors only turn 4,000 rpm max. It doesn't add up.

Yep, me too.
And the power, speed, and range!

I didn't understand that, either, man. However, he mentions that he's running 4.5:1 gearing now instead of 6:1 previously. He also said that at 6:1 he was only running 35-40mph.

4000RPM @ 4.5:1 would be 888RPM. With a wheel circumference of 62" (just approximate), it would equate to 55,056 inches covered per min. That equates to .869miles per min. or 52MPH.

But that sprocket looks huge, so maybe he took the pics with the old 6:1 sprocket on?

Seems like the answer to a question nobody asked.

How can you take a classic bike and make it worse in every possible way, while at the same time hammering the environment with battery guts and coal fires?
