Storm Warning

Storm Warning
So; for the last few days we down here in NZ have been getting these major warnings that we are about to get our a55es kicked by tropical cyclone Lusi, that has decided to take a bit of a wander to our part of the world.
One of the major things that has been broadcast with every news update is "check you emergency survival kit".
So, this morning I decided to do the decent thing and check my survival kit.
Walked to the top of the drive and wandered 30m down the street.
Takeaway shop (chippie), open and operating? Check.
Bottle Store (offie) next door, open and operating? Check.
Very large Hardware store full of batteries, torches and portable generators (that my wife just happens to have a key to) open and operating? Check.
This whole survivalist thing is a whole lot easier than they make out on TV.

earth :: an animated map of global wind and weather
I could see watching this, that we were going to miss the hammering.
Different story for my sister thou in Franz Josef on the other side of the Southern Alps to me. 125mm of rain in less than 24 hours, about a quarter of our annual rainfall here. Only about 150km away in real terms, but the other side of those mountains make a huge difference.
You will love the South Island; State Highway 6 is the magic one. Starts in Blenheim, across to the very beautiful city of Nelson. Then that mad weather dodging ride down through the rain forests of the West Coast.
A quick flick over the Alps into the drylands of Central Otago and pause for a beer at mine. Down to Queenstown; do the whole jet boating, bungy jumping adventure tourism thing.
Cruise on down to Invercargill (via a side trip to Milford Sound) and check out the Munroe Museum.
Then via Catlins Coast and back up the East Coast (doing the whole earthquake devastation tour in Christchurch) and back on up to the beautiful vineyards and restaurants of the Blenheim area.
I know of a certain V-Max that lives in Wellington that could just be available for a senior member to make a ride like that.
PS : just went out and had a look in my backyard. No Boeing 777 there, so I'm off the hook. Can any other members declare the same thing?
I know Seb has a big shed, have you looked in all corners of the shed in the last few days????

Good investigative skills there Kiwiborn, but I'm almost certain that a 777 doesn't have propellers.
Have you looked really carefully all over your dairy farm?
However we can now say with some certainty:
Not in Mt Pleasant
Not in Wanaka
Probably not in Taupo (yet to be confirmed due to a fatal aircraft mis-identification)
The search areas narrow as we speak.
