A sidebar to the tire change thread
I just had to install a kitchen faucet for a friend of mine in Lakewood. My tools are in Olympia, about 30 miles away. Anyway, I was a bit pressed for time and all I needed was a crescent wrench and some Teflon tape. I run to the nearest place which just happened to be the O' Reilly's auto parts store. Got the wrench and asked the guy to help me locate the teflon tape. At checkout I mentioned that all of this was for a plumbing job and not for automotive use.
He laughed about people using things for cross-purposes
The example he cited was this Russian guy who owns a used tire store nearby. He buys starter fluid to set beads on tires. I guess if you spray the ether into the valve stem and then put a torch near the hole, the ensuing explosion sets the tire bead on the rim.
I thought that was a bit crazy
What's the craziest thing you've done/seen done?

I have done the bead seating with starting fluid before. Big tires need a little help sometimes.
I've used toothpaste to clean headlight lenses.
I've used shampoo as anti fog on visors.
I've used an egg as temporary stop leak in a radiator.
