Indeed , who could ever forget the Jack Brabham v's John Surtees back in those
days. Sir Jack was one hell of driver and an Aussie hero. @ 88 he held out well.

RIP Sir Jack Brabham.
We have a glass cabinet at home that has a photo of my - then 8 year old - son with Sir Jack taken at the Lobethal stop during the Grand Prix Rally. From memory Jack was driving a red fastback Ford Mustang.
My son said at the time "why do I want my picture taken with that old man?"
30 minutes later we were at the next vantage point along the rally route and Sir Jack came booming along the narrow road, the Ford on-song and echoing about the hillsides, came into the hairpin sideways and powerslid the big car to the next bend.
I pointed out to my son that that was the old man he'd just had his photo taken with.
silence...................and then
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooow!
Drive on Jack

Speaking of legends and full-song pushrod small block Fords. Here's a good example of that sound. Webers, with solid lifters and probably a 7500 redline, not a song as much as it was rock and roll to a Ferrari's aria

Granted, my last Mustang was a '98 SVT Cobra, with a 4.6 overhead cam, injected 32-valve that it's own kind of music. That sound is music to my ears

..and forget Mario, A.J Foyt or the Unsers. Here's my favorite American driver, Dan Gurney, a man that could win anywhere, often in less than great equipment and did it in multiple fields of auto racing. read the first paragraph.
